Q. Why am I missing a vehicle under "My Vehicles"?
It is possible you may be listed as an owner of the vehicle but your driver license or ID is not tied to the
vehicle in our information system. If this is the case, you may still be able to update the vehicle address
by using the "Search for a missing vehicle" link at the top of the My Vehicles page. You will need your vehicle
registration card to provide the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), title issue date, and plate number for the
"Missing Vehicles" search. Please contact your nearest DMV branch office and asked to be transferred to Vehicle
Services to have a missing vehicle added to your "My Vehicles" list.
Q. I see my vehicle in the "My Vehicles" list after logging into my MyDMV account but I do not have the option to change the address or renew the registration.
In order to change a vehicle address online, the vehicle must be free from outstanding monetary obligations due
to fines, parking tickets, red light enforcement violations, toll violations, etc. In addition, if the vehicle
was reported stolen or the tag was surrendered, suspended, or reported lost or stolen, you will not be able to
change the address or renew online. Please visit your nearest DMV branch location to resolve issues related to
this vehicle.
Q. How can I get a vehicle added to the "My Vehicles" list so I don't have to search for a vehicle missing from the list?
Please contact your nearest DMV branch office and asked
to be transferred to Vehicle Services.
Q. Can I update a vehicle address or renew a vehicle registration for my spouse, children, friends, or relatives?
No. Individuals may only update their own vehicles.
Q. Does it cost anything to update my vehicle registration address or color?
There is no charge for changing your vehicle address or color online or in a branch office. There is no fee for
creating a MyDMV account.
Q. Who can update their vehicle registration address online?
Any individual with a Delaware driver license or ID card can update their vehicle color or physical and mailing
addresses online. You will be required to create a MyDMV user account if you do not already have one. To create
a MyDMV user account, you will need your driver license or ID number, date of birth, and last four of your Social
Security Number.
Q. Can businesses update the addresses of vehicles owned by the business online?
In certain cases such as sole proprietorships, yes, it is possible that a business can update vehicle addresses
online. MyDMV accounts are tied to individuals, not businesses, so the business owner would have to create a MyDMV
account, log in and select the vehicle or search for a vehicle using the Vehicle Identification Number, title issue
date from the vehicle registration card, and plate number.
Q. My vehicle registration expired. Can I still update the address on that vehicle?
Yes.
Q. What types of vehicles are eligible for online change of address?
All vehicle types (except mobile homes and dealer vehicles) including passenger cars, trucks, antique, farm, trailers,
mopeds, motorcycles, RV's, taxi, limousine, and commercial.
Q. I recently sold my vehicle. Should I change the address to the buyer's address?
No. Please fill out the Seller's Report of Sale at the bottom of the title or the back of the vehicle registration card
and forward to the DMV.
Q. Why does DMV need my vehicle address?
The vehicle address is printed on your vehicle registration card.
Q. What do I need to update my vehicle address online?
Log into your MyDMV user account and select the "My Vehicles" link on the right navigation menu. A list of vehicles is
displayed from which to select.
Q. How long does it take to update my vehicle address online?
Logging into MyDMV and updating one vehicle physical and mailing address should typically take less than five minutes.
Q. What addresses are stored related to my vehicles?
A physical address and mailing address is associated with every vehicle you own. You will have the option to update
both addresses for every vehicle along with a primary and secondary color.
Q. Does the address on my driver license or ID change when I update my vehicle address?
No, the address for your driver license or ID is stored separately and you will need to visit a DMV branch office with
proof of residence to update the address on your driver license or ID.
Q. Will I get an updated vehicle registration card?
After updating your vehicle address or color, you will be given the option to print an updated vehicle registration card.
Q. I have multiple vehicles, do I have to update each address individually?
Yes. After updating the first vehicle, you will have the option to "use recent address".
Q. Why can't I update my physical address with a PO Box?
PO Boxes are only accepted as a mailing address.
Q. Why can't I update my mailing address? I see the fields but they are grayed out or protected.
Uncheck the "same as above" checkbox to be able to type into the mailing address field.
Q. I update my address but noticed it truncated characters of the street address.
Our computer system only stores the first 20 characters and you will only be able to enter 20 characters unless
the USPS suggested address is selected on the address validation page. The USPS suggested street address might
be greater than 20 characters but will be truncated to 20 characters when stored in our computer system.
Q. Why is my current city flagged as "invalid" when I try to update my street address?
Please bear with us as we try to correct some inconsistencies with vehicle addresses in our computer system. It
is possible the computer system has some city values that are no longer considered valid such as "Camden-Wyoming"
with a hyphen ("-") and is expecting "Camden Wyoming" as the valid city.
Q. Does DMV require proof of residence for changing an address?
When the address is updated online, DMV does not require proof of residence to be mailed to the branch office.
However, DMV reserves the right to request proof of residency for this address change at any point in the future.
Submitting a false address to DMV may result in prosecution and loss of driving privileges.
Q. Why can't I enter a state for the "physical" address?
A vehicle registered in Delaware must have a primary residence of Delaware although it may have a non-Delaware
mailing address.
Q. How do I renew my vehicle registration online?
Log into your MyDMV account and select "My Vehicles". Your vehicles will be displayed along with a �Renew Your
Registration� icon for each vehicle eligible for online renewal.
Q. What information will I need to have available to renew online?
You will need your vehicle registration, vehicle odometer mileage, insurance (if applicable to the vehicle type),
and credit card handy when renewing online.
Q. Are there extra costs for renewing online?
No, there is no additional fee for renewing online.
Q. My vehicle registration is about to expire. When can I renew?
You may renew your vehicle registration at any time as long as your vehicle is not due for an inspection.
Q. Can I renew my vanity plate online?
Yes. Vanity plates may be renewed online.
Q. I do not wish to renew my vanity plate. Can I still renew my registration online?
No. If you have a Vanity plate and do not wish to renew it, please visit your nearest DMV branch to turn
in your vanity plate.
Q. What vehicles are eligible to renew online?
Vehicles that do not require an inspection or that have had an inspection within the past two years are
eligible for online renewal. Certain vehicle types such as Dealer, Limousine, Park Trailers, Mobile Homes,
and Taxis, are ineligible for online renewal.
Q. My vehicle's registration has expired. Can I renew online?
Yes. A late fee may apply based on the type of vehicle.
Q. My vehicle needs an inspection. Can I renew online?
Yes. You will still need to visit your nearest DMV branch location to drive your vehicle through the inspection
lane. Once it has passed inspection, you may complete the registration renewal process online by making payment
with a major credit card and printing a temporary registration card. A permanent registration card and expiration
sticker will be mailed to the address on file for the vehicle.
Q. What forms of payment do you take?
We accept Master Card, Visa, Discover, and American Express.
Q. My address has changed. Will I be given a chance to change my vehicle address before renewing?
Yes.
Q. How do I get an expiration sticker for my plate?
For vehicles that were renewed online, a permanent vehicle registration card and sticker will be mailed to the
mailing or physical address provided for the vehicle.
Customers who change their vehicle address, color, or renew the vehicle registration online will be able to print a Vehicle Registration Card online for 24 hours from the time the transaction was completed.
Q. Can I print a vehicle registration card for my vehicle?
Only customers who update their vehicle address, update the color, or renew the vehicle registration online can
print a vehicle registration card.
Q. What do I need to print a vehicle registration card online?
Just a printer, paper, and free Adobe Acrobat Reader software. The vehicle registration card is in .pdf format.
Q. I was unable or forgot to print my vehicle registration card after I updated my vehicle. What should I do?
You have 24 hours after updating your vehicle to log into your myDMV account and print
your vehicle registration card. A printer icon will be displayed next to the vehicle. Click on the printer
icon to print your registration card.
Q. How do I get an expiration sticker for my plate?
For vehicles that were renewed online, a permanent vehicle registration card and sticker will be mailed to the
mailing or physical address provided for the vehicle.
Q. I renewed my registration online. Where will my registration card and expiration sticker be mailed?
Your permanent registration card and sticker will be mailed to the mailing address associated with your vehicle.
If no mailing address is provided, it will be mailed to the physical address on file for the vehicle. You will
have the chance to review and update your vehicle's mailing and physical address when you renew.
Q. I updated my Vehicle Address or Color. Will I receive a new registration card in the mail?
No. Vehicle registration cards and stickers are only mailed for registration renewals. You may print a new
registration card up to 24 hours after updating your vehicle's address or color online. Please log back into
your MyDMV account to print your vehicle registration card.
Q. What if I am pulled over for an expired registration before I receive my permanent registration card and expiration sticker in the mail?
Be sure to print a new vehicle registration card to keep in your glove box until you receive the new registration
card and expiration sticker in the mail.
Q. If my vehicle has been expired for over one year, can I get a duplicate registration card?
No. After one year the vehicle will need to be re-titled. At that time you will get a new registration card and title.
Q.What type of issues will prevent me from purchasing a duplicate registration card?
- A registration flag that is preventing the purchase of a duplicate registration card.
- If your vehicle is fitted with an ignition interlock device (IID)
- If your registration is flagged with a "Report of Sale" or "Report of Transfer to Dealer"
- A DL/ID flag that is preventing the purchase of a duplicate card.
- The Tag# and Vin# does not match (change of tag/switch tags)
