Delaware State Police Salvage Vehicle Inspection Procedure

(Effective 07-01-2018)

Required Documentation:
  1. Salvage certificate
  2. Bill of Sale
  3. Receipts for repairs
  4. Photos
  5. Personal photo identification
  1. Salvage Certificate (must include the following)
    1. Must be filled in properly
    2. Must be assigned to a Delaware dealer or Delaware resident
  2. Bill of Sale (must include the following)
    1. Purchase price
    2. Date of purchase
    3. Purchaser: name, address, zip code, phone number
    4. Seller: name, address, zip code, phone number
    5. Description of the purchased vehicle, including the vehicle’s VIN number
  3. Receipts (must include the following)
    1. Item or items purchased
    2. Purchase price
    3. Purchaser: name, address, zip code
    4. Date the parts were purchased
    5. If used parts were purchased from another vehicle, the VIN number from the “parts car” must be on the receipt
    6. No handwritten receipts will be accepted
  4. Photos (must include the following)
    1. Photos taken prior to repairs
    2. Color photos, showing the entire vehicle: front, back, both sides (this can be done with two photos)
  5. Personal photo identification (must include the following)
    1. ID of person presenting the vehicle for inspection
    2. Photo driver’s license or ID card

****NOTE****

➢ Salvage title, Bill of Sale & Receipts for parts and/or repairs must all be in the same dealer or person’s name

➢ DSP/ATU will not inspect vehicles repaired by a prior salvage title owner

➢ DSP/ATU will not inspect vehicles without authenticating the above required documentation – no photocopies will be accepted as proof.



 

Auto Theft Inspection Schedule

The Division of Motor Vehicles requires some vehicles to be inspected by the Delaware State Police Auto Theft Unit. These vehicles include vehicles that have been reconstructed, flood damage or missing vehicle identification numbers and vehicles that a title cannot be obtained. The Auto Theft Unit schedule is listed below:

All trailer Auto Theft Unit inspections can be done by appointment at the State Police Troop which. (see the below schedule)
