Your DMV :: Quick Tips for Passing Inspection
- Avoid peak times when the inspection lines may be long. The best times to come for a vehicle inspection are 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
- Try to avoid coming for inspection at the busiest times of the month, including the 15th, the last day of the month, and on Wednesday's when the DMV is opened late
- In very hot weather, consider coming at a cooler time of the day, such as the early morning or late afternoon
- Bring with you:
- Your vehicle
- Your Delaware registration card, or out-of-state title or registration card
- You may have a family member, friend, or neighbor drive your vehicle through inspection
- Make sure your engine is thoroughly warmed up before you arrive so it is operating at peak efficiency
- Turn off all accessories (air conditioning, heater, radio, etc.) before entering the inspection facility
- Fast idle your engine for 30 seconds just prior to entering the inspection facility
- Make sure that all occupants have their safety belts fastened
- Familiarize yourself with the location of your vehicle's parts, which can be found in your Owner's Manual:
- Hood release lever
- Horn
- Windshield wipers
- Head lights
- Fog lights
- Window switches
- Interior controls
- If your fuel cap locks, provide the key to the inspector
- Have obvious defects in your vehicle repaired before inspection
- Remain calm as you wait in, and go through, the inspection line
- You may be required to get out of your vehicle. If you are disabled or need additional assistance, tell the inspector and you may be given an alternative procedure
